Frequently Asked Questions

There are many questions asked about the Jamboree and we have put the most asked questions here. If you do not see the answer to your question please contact the email the team at: Questions

Q: Will there be food deliveries to the Jamboree?
A: We have arranged with the major supermarkets for you to order online and they will deliver to the campsite.   You will need to use your existing account or setup a new one, then use their holiday delivery service and put Sea Scout 100 at Holme Pierrepont as the delivery address. To get the most popular delivery times you will need to book the time a few days earlier.
Q: Will there be freezers to freeze ice packs?
A: Sea Scout 100 will be selling 400g ice packs for £1.20 for a pack of two. We will keep one pack and exchange it each day for the other one. At the end of the camp you get to keep both packs which will have only cost you 60p each.  This is to ensure that  the ice packs are properly frozen each day and they are not lost or taken by mistake.
There will be NO facility for you to freeze your own ice packs.
Q: Can you let me know if it is ok to bring a generator to use whilst at the Sea Scout Jamboree?
A: Yes you can bring a generator but we ask that you are considerate in its use and not to use it between 22:00 and 07:00.
Q: I am a caravanner is there any possibility that I can bring my caravan?
A: We can accommodate caravans, at no additional cost, in an area set aside in the Jamboree car park, which is about 100 yards further up the road adjoining the main campsite. Unfortunately there are minimal facilities in the car park and you may have to collect water from the main camp site. To ensure we allocate enough space please let us know if you would like to bring a caravan.
Q: At what time does the campsite open?
A: The site will be open from 09:00 on Saturday, 1 August 2009, all groups must depart by 16:00 on Saturday, 8 August 2009.
Q: How much space do you get per scout?
A: Each group will be allocated space proportional to the number of places they book.
Q: Do you expect scouts to camp as patrols or do you allow space for a central catering/dining tent?
A: It will be up to each group to decide how they want to manage their space and organise their camp.
Q: Are you providing toilet or should scout groups bring their own?
A: We will be providing toilet, washing and shower facilities. The site owners will be most upset if you dig lat pits or have open fires on the ground of their nice campsite.
Q: Should we bring our own buoyancy aids, or are they provided.
A: We are encouraging people to bring their own if possible, we will have a limited number of buoyancy aids available at each water activity for those who do not have there own.
Q: Do any activities require full lifejackets? Are they provided?
A: If any of the activities require full lifejackets we will provide them.
Q: Are all water craft being provided centrally, or are you looking for groups to contribute their own?
A: About 50% of the water craft are being provided centrally but we are asking groups if they have suitable kayaks or sailing boats to offer them and we will contact them if needed. We are particularly interested if you have any single handed or performance sailing dinghies available.
Q: Will there be gas recharging facilities, or do we need to bring a full camps supply?
A: We are arranging for local suppliers of food and consumable items to provide daily deliveries to the site and these will include Calor and camping Gaz.
Q: Are scouts likely to be coming back to basecamp to cook lunch, or are packed lunches usual?
A: Each group will make their own arrangements for providing lunch. We will be running the most popular water activities throughout the day so you may want to stagger your lunch times.
Q: Can you clarify the expectations as to leaders roles. Leaders doing activities?
A: Leaders who want to join in the activities with their scouts will pay the same price £135, if leaders are just supervising their scouts at the Jamboree they pay the reduced price of £90 to cover the camping fees, adult facilities and entertainment.
Q: One of my leaders has a child who is under 10 years may they attend, what can they do and what would they be charged?
A: The price for children accompanying leaders is £35, this covers the camping cost and entertainment. Unfortunately all of the water and many of the land activities have a lower age limit of ten so activities suitable for a cub will be limited by their age.
Q: How will the young people be booked onto the activities, i.e. will it be a token system so it may be 2 for sailing, 2 for kayaking etc or will it be the whole subcamp on kayaking or sailing etc?
A: We would like everyone to have the opportunity to have a go at everything but a free for all is not practical, if everyone turned up for water skiing when we only have 20 places each hour it would be a disaster. The plan is to only have the most popular activities booked by ticket, like the water skiing whilst other activities like kayaking will be run on a first come first served basis. We have exclusive use of the water activities from 09:00 to 19:00 each day and with the numbers limited to 2500 to ensure everyone has the opportunity to do a minimum of one water activity each day.
Q: Are there any age restrictions on the activities?
A: All water activities will be open to all scouts with the exception of the white water course which Holme Pierrepont have a lower age limit of 14.
Q: We have been on jamborees before where the activities have not been available to all the young people.
A: The numbers attending the Jamboree have been limited to 2500 so we can ensure every scout has the opportunity to do a minimum of one water activity each day.
Q: Could you please confirm that The Jamboree is an International event?
A: Yes the Jamboree is an international event, we have had enquiries from Ireland, Sweden, USA and as far away as Australia and New Zealand.
Q: Please confirm the camping fees include accommodation or not. If so, what is the accommodation or are we expected to provide own tents ?
A: The price includes camping fees for the Jamboree, you will need to bring your own tents and provide your own catering. There are rooms available at Holme Peirrepont but they will need to be booked and paid for direct to the centre.
Q: Where’s the nearest airport, how do you recommend we transfer?
A: The nearest airport is East Midlands which we will be arranging a coach to transfer people arriving there and at Nottingham railway station.
Q: How is food deliveries and shopping being organised?
A: We are arranging for a major super market chain to deliver to the site each day. Alternativly Nottingham is only a short distance away with branches of all the major shops and banks.
